Working with a World Champion

It’s not every day you get to work with a World Champion.

At Blue Car Technologies, however, we get to do just that!

On 22nd July 2023 our very own Connor announced he is officially World Lightweight Champion in International Taekwondo. You may already know about Connor’s Blue Car Journey (see our previous post Connor's Blue Car Journey (bluecartechnologies.com)

- he has certainly come a long way.

But let’s start from the beginning.

Connor started Taekwondo in 2013 while in secondary school and he never looked back.

To begin with, he just wanted to see what he could achieve however, he discovered there’s more to martial arts than fighting.

He soon grasped the five tenets of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit; values he embraces in every aspect of life, which makes him a great match for our company culture.

Over the course of seven years, he moved up the ranks and eventually got to Black Stripe (only one rank before Black Belt).

He also started learning Korean to better understand the discipline’s teachings and principles.

Then 2020 happened and everything went virtual. During the Pandemic, Connor found on-line sessions didn’t work for him, so he decided to put his passion on hold and focus on finding a job (which he did get … with Blue Car).

However, after a year or so he noticed a decline in his fitness levels. He decided to resume Taekwondo and his instructor was very pleased to see him again.

In 2023, Connor was selected for the World Championship on 22nd July at Skydome Arena in Coventry. He trained hard and, on the day, he got to the final round. It went down to a nail-biting three-round finale (due to the first two rounds being draws).

And that’s not end of the story.

On Sunday 22nd October he went for black belt grading, which was a big moment for him. We are pleased to announce he is now officially a BLACK BELT.

So what’s next?

Connor’s next goal is to compete in another championship and win the Championship Belt. Watch this space!
