Blue Car Technologies attended both ConnectLive Chicago and London, giving us a unique opportunity to engage with the wider iManage community across US, EU, and home organisations here in the United Kingdom. Despite differences in attendees’ focus, such as cost reduction or compliance when looking into iManage integrations, one overarching theme of the event was consistent; The move to further AI-enable working across the legal industry.
Last year, much of the legal sector approached AI with caution, with many firms focused on evaluating its potential rather than committing to adoption. Something that was touched upon during ConnectLive 2025, especially during the session on “Ask iManage AI”.
However, this year paints a different picture with iManage highlighting a clear and deliberate push on AI across its platform. Whether that was through Ask iManage or the more flexible Model Context protocol (MCP).
Rise of AI-Augmented Lawyer
The legal sector has been historically slow to digital transformation and the adoption of new technologies, often slowed by caution, compliance requirements, and the need for guaranteed security. All of which are pivotal for law firms operating in the digital age. However, as AI gains increased traction, law firms are adopting AI to support research, putting together documents, summarizing information, and drafting correspondence. There are measurable benefits to productivity, providing an efficient way to complete tasks which promote greater time efficiency.
So why are some firms hesitant on adopting AI? There are a couple of factors, the more notable ones being knowledge around AI, training gaps, and the need for robust policies to ensure data and information are accurate at all times. Without all these factors being considered and addressed by organizations and teams operating in the legal sector, AI will only compound any potential human error or inaccurate information governance.
A great takeaway from ConnectLive 2026 was that AI is nothing but an enabler for firms; it's not a solution. Core workflows, policies, training, and technological understanding, all form the foundation on which AI can be either successful or a detriment to your organization.
MCP and what it means
MCP is an important development because it helps create a more open and connected AI ecosystem. Rather than treating AI as a closed feature sitting inside a single product, MCP offers a structured way for AI tools to connect with systems, data sources, and workflows in a more flexible way.
For legal teams, that matters because it opens the door to building AI support around real business processes, not just isolated use cases. It creates greater potential for integrations that can support research, document handling, matter workflows, and knowledge access in a way that fits the way firms already work.
For us, iManage’s push toward MCP is especially exciting. As a technology partner, it gives us greater flexibility to build solutions designed for specific use cases that extend AI support across our integrations, helping firms make better use of their existing systems while keeping control, security, and governance front and centre.
